Welcome to the Official Hanna Lee Station Website!!!

I have dreamt of opening a restaurant for many years. I have been so inspired by Thomas and the Canaan Valley area that I decided that this was the place to offer my services. I have been equally inspired by an occurrence in nature known as fractal geometry.

The shapes of leaves, trees, rivers and clouds are all fractals. Fractals are the rule for the formation of repeating patterns in nature.
The Hanna Lee Station logo is an art piece derived from the famous dragon fractal built using an artistic program utilizing math formulas and proven fractal guidelines. The first piece of fractal art has been argued to be the publication of the Mandelbrot fractal formula in the Scientific American in 1985.
"Many important special patterns in nature are either irregular or fragmented to such an extreme degree ...classical geometry… is hardly of any help in describing their form. ...it is possible in many cases to remedy this absence of geometric representation by using a family of shapes I call fractal sets" Mandelbrot 1977"

I'm going to show you how to make the dragon fractal by paper-folding. For the Dragon Fractal we are going to start with a narrow strip of paper, let's say approximately 1" by 11". Construction paper works really well because it has a little more stiffness. Take the strip in both hands, fold the paper over left onto right, and crease. Now fold it again in the same way, left to right, and crease, and again, left onto right and crease, and again left onto right and crease. You have folded it four times in all, right? Before you open the paper out, can you imagine what it will look like unfolded? Let's unfold and see. Now you may be saying, this is just a mess of folded paper. How can this be a fractal? Well, we have to put some order to it. Lay the paper on its edge. Crease all the folds as right angles. Then rotate it until it matches up with the figure below. Be sure to find the closed-up square. See? You did it! It's the same shape!

Fractals are found all over in nature and can be a fun way to imagine the beauty of math and patterns in nature and the cosmos! If you would like to learn more, try this website! Fractal Foundation "Inspiring Interest in Science, Math and Art"

Are you a musician? Do you have or play in a band? If so Contact Us about possibly playing in an event here at our location. You can check the events calenders to see events that are taking place here or that Hanna Lee Station will be associated with. Also be sure and ask or contact us about our open mic nights.
